Walking in the Spirit

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

One night I couldn’t sleep and was praying. God laid this verse on my heart and I haven’t been able to get away from it since. “If we live in the Spirit…” I began to think about going to church, feeling the presence of God, having the holy ghost, living in the Spirit, but do we as a church walk in the spirit? Are we getting benefits from His Spirit or are we walking in it? Do our lives produce the fruits of the Spirit or the works of the flesh? Sometimes it is easy to let ourselves slip to a place where we are living in the Spirit, but not walking in it. We can all live in it, feel it, know what it is, but do we walk in it?

I have watched people make decisions in their life based on their fleshly emotions and their own wisdom. They would be confronted by a problem and make a permanent decision based on the temporary problem that they were dealing with, but you see, God's ways are above our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He knows the end before we ever even start and He knows the outcome of every decision before we ever make them.

What would happen, If we could just allow Him to guide us into His perfect will instead of making short sighted decisions based on our fleshly emotions and limited wisdom.

If you want a spiritual result, don’t just live in the spirit by coming to church and speaking in tongues then proceed to make decisions in the flesh with no guidance from God. Walk in the spirit. Make decisions with much prayer, fasting, and only after seeking the will of God, so that you let the Spirit of God determine every single step that you take on this journey through life.

I see people serving for recognition or because they want to accomplish a certain thing, or a certain position. In Galatians 5 verse 13 it says “use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another” Are we serving with love? Are we serving one another with pure intentions? Or using the freedom God has given us for fleshly reasons, like position or to “look good” to others. Let us not be desirous of vain glory… we cannot be looking for praise of ourselves. You can be serving in ministry, doing the “right” things for the wrong reasons. Serving in the midst of the power and presence of God, yet not willing to give up the pride and vanity of the flesh. That is living in the Spirit, but walking in the flesh. If we could only get to the point where we are truly walking in the spirit, we would produce only the fruit of the Spirit.

Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers: but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; Ephesians 6:6

How do you know if you are walking in the spirit? It is simple. What is your life producing?

It is not enough to follow it or experience it. It is not enough to preach it. To truly represent Christ we must walk in the spirit. There will be people who come to church and know the voice of God, but continue to live, surrounded by the spirit of God, but not fully giving themselves over to it.

Let us encourage you today to let God direct every step that you take so you fully WALK in the spirit. We must repent and crucify our flesh so we can walk in the spirit.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: Psalm 37:23

Are your steps ordered by the Lord?
