What are the Walls Filled With?

Old Journal Entry:
During the altar call that night the peace of God fell, possibly stronger than I had ever felt. It literally took my breath away. As I walked into the sanctuary the next morning you could feel that same peace lingering in the room.
There has been a thought running through my mind for quite some time. What are the walls filled with? I keep imagining three different sets of walls; us as individuals, our homes, and our church. I am filled with something, my home is filled with something, and so are our churches.
Have you ever walked into a place and felt uncomfortable? No one had to say a word, but you didn’t want to be there. Something just wasn’t right.
Have you ever walked into someone's home and no one said anything, but you could tell that there was no peace there.
Whether we like it or admit it, we are spiritual. We are worshiping something or someone. If we gather together with others and worship, we are going to invite a spirit in. The question is, will it be the Spirit of God?
That may seem far fetched. That may sound crazy. There are certain things we don’t allow into our personal home, because we will not allow that spirit into our home. There are things that our family chooses not to watch or listen to for this reason. I will never forget when God started dealing with my husband and I on this several years ago. We sat down to watch a movie and you could feel something enter the room. There was nothing “scary” per say in the movie, but there was an uneasiness that it invited. We immediately turned the movie off. Something had just entered the walls of our home, and it wasn’t something we wanted there. This would not have phased us before; however, we had started changing what filled us. We were beginning to become more full of His Spirit, and when something entered on the next layer, our home, we knew it.
We allow things into ourselves by what we consume. The food we consume, the music we listen to, the things we set our eyes on, and the way we talk. We are inviting things in to change us for the better or for the worse. If we choose to eat unhealthy foods then we have no energy and are sluggish. The same thing happens spiritually whenever we consume things that are not Godly, we become spiritually unhealthy.
What are we filled with? Is it the Spirit of God or something else?
What are the walls of our homes filled with?
Fighting
Hurt
Ungodliness
Gossip
Backbiting
Glory
Praise
Peace
Something is going to fill our homes, and it starts with us. If we are not filling ourselves with good, Godly things then we cannot expect our homes to be. We are going to be filled with something and that is going to change our home. What will it be?
We fill ourselves with things, that then fills our home, and then it will fill our church.
We love the song “House of Miracles'' by Brandon Lake. Throughout the song it says, this is a house of worship, praise, healing, miracles, where demons tremble, and where we proclaim His name.
May we ask this question, is it really? Are the things that we are bringing with us really making the house of God what is meant to be? Let’s add here that we know “we are the church”, but we believe there is a significance in the church house as well.
It is the place where people should be able to come and be helped or set free from anything. However, if we are filling ourselves, our homes, and our church with things that should not be there, it won’t be a place of deliverance.
Saul got jealous. He was displeased that David appeared greater. Then when the evil spirit came, Saul prophesied. Let’s think about that. Isn’t that a good thing? However, it was an evil spirit. David played as at other times. Saul cast a javelin. There was a spirit there, but it was evil.
Saul's palace should have been a place where God was welcome. Where the prophet could come to give wisdom and advice, but there was an evil spirit upon Saul so it changed the environment of the room. When David came in with worship he changed the environment and Saul couldn’t stand it so he attacked David, and David left.
Not to get off on a tangent, but this all started because Saul was not obedient to God. This shows the importance of obeying the Word of God, if we want to be pleasing to Him.
There was a spirit attached to Saul. There is your spirit and there is a spirit attached to you.
We can come to church and bring our envy, begin to gossip, and let rebellion reign. We begin to invite a spirit into our church, and I don’t believe it is the Spirit of God. God isn’t ok with us coming to church to say, “did you hear what Sally said?”. God isn’t ok with us coming to church and being envious because Joe got the solo on the song we wanted.
How could we be ok with allowing a spirit of envy, jealousy, rebellion, etc into the place of worship for God?
The house of God should be a place where those tormented in their mind come to be delivered, but if we are filling it with ungodly spirits, we are allowing it, and not defeating it.
In the Journal entry that I started with, I believe God was teaching me something. I felt so strong to go into the church to pray that morning. I couldn’t get in the sanctuary quick enough. As I walked into the sanctuary I could feel what I felt that night before in the service lingering. The peace of God. I feel so strong today that there are things in ourselves, our homes, and our churches lingering. Some of it is good, and some of it is not. I know one thing for sure, I want to ensure that I am filling myself with the Spirit of God and Godly things, so that my home will be filled the same, then hopefully I can take it to the church building with me so that someone may be set free.
I ask you today, What are the walls filled with?
Scriptures of Saul and David referenced are in 1 Samuel chapter 18.
